Jealousies

Jealousy, Edvard Munch, Munch Museum, 1907 (?)

The lines on my face

leave a trace

of a place

or three or four or more

beachheads abandoned

histories deserted

legacies lost

futures forsaken

She was afraid

of a past seemingly

without boundaries or signposts

rules or constraints

If I could not understand this

how could she

and how could then we

move forward

She was jealous of my past

I was covetous of her future

dreading that it would come

too much to resemble what once was mine.
